Men’s Health Checks at Medics PCN

Many men delay seeing their GP or avoid booking appointments, even when something does not feel right. This should not be the case. Looking after your health is not a weakness, it is a responsibility.

To make things easier, Medics PCN now offers Men’s Health Checks, led by Dave Dixon our PCN Paramedic. These checks create a simple, supportive space to talk openly about your health and take action early.

During a men’s health check, we will:

  • Arrange a blood test where appropriate
  • Talk through your physical health and any concerns you may have
  • Discuss mental wellbeing, stress, and mood
  • Explore lifestyle factors such as activity, weight, smoking, alcohol, and sleep

A key focus of these checks is prevention. By spotting early signs of health issues and making small changes now, we can reduce the risk of long-term conditions in the future.

These checks are not about judgement or lectures. They are about understanding your health, asking questions, and taking control early.

If you are eligible, your GP practice or Medics PCN team will contact you with more information, or you can speak to your practice to find out more.

Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle

Your health does not sit in separate boxes. The way you feel physically, emotionally, and psychologically all connects. When one area starts to slip, it often affects the others too. Low mood can drain your energy, stress can disrupt sleep, and poor sleep can make everyday tasks feel harder than they should.

Because of this, looking after your health works best when you take a whole-person approach. Small pressures can create a ripple effect across work, relationships, motivation, and confidence. Likewise, small positive changes can make daily life feel more manageable.

To support this, Medics PCN offers a range of services you can tap into. These services focus on practical support, prevention, and building healthier routines over time. You do not need to change everything at once. Starting with one small step can make a real difference.

Below, you will find services and tools designed to help make life easier and support your overall wellbeing.

X-4RCE

This service offers men a safe, non-judgemental space to focus on their mental health, wellbeing, and connection with others.

Sessions are led by Wade Wilson, Founder of X-4RCE CIC, a Luton-based organisation supporting men’s mental health through real conversations, peer support, and community activities. Wade brings lived experience and a down-to-earth approach that helps men feel comfortable and supported.

The service focuses on building confidence, improving wellbeing, and reducing isolation in a relaxed, non-clinical setting. It works alongside GP and NHS services and offers early support to help prevent issues from escalating.

Men’s Recovery Circle

The Men’s Recovery Circle offers a safe, supportive space for men who want to talk, listen, and connect with others who understand.

The group supports men experiencing challenges such as low mood, stress, anxiety, anger, addiction, or simply those who feel they need to talk. Men support men in a relaxed, respectful environment, with no pressure to share more than you feel comfortable with.

Sessions run every Thursday, 1.30pm to 3.00pm in Luton, at Chaul End Community Centre. This is a walk-in group, so there is no need to book.

You do not have to manage things on your own. This group offers connection, understanding, and support from others facing similar challenges.

Mind BLMK – Men’s Group

The Luton Men’s Group offers a relaxed, informal space where men can meet others, have a chat, and talk about everyday life.

The group runs every Friday from 10.30am to 12.00pm at Mind BLMK’s centre on Dumfries Street, Luton. Sessions often include conversation over a cup of tea, discussions about current topics, and simple activities such as games.

The group welcomes men who want social connection, routine, and a supportive environment. There is no pressure to talk about mental health unless you want to.

New members need to complete a referral and short initial assessment before attending. Mind BLMK can support you with this process.
